Challenge

To create a centralized database that can store and visualize large amounts of agricultural data, available in different data formats and sourced from different vendors.

Solution

  • We have built an application that acts as a data lake ecosystem, a single tool to visualize different kinds of data coming from several vendors.
  • The application can store and visualize various data types including shapefiles, KML, raster tiles, graphs, on one platform.
  • The variety of agricultural data hosted includes planter data (plots, plot rows, seed drop), vegetation indices, soil and weather data, drone and satellite imagery, acquired throughout the growing season.
  • The data lake can load and order a large volume of data, even millions of points, without compromising on speed and performance.

One Core Platform
Log onto a single platform to access and visualize all agricultural data instantly, making it easy to view, control, check, and understand the entire database.

Data Management
The entire database was indexed and grouped according to each farm location throughout USA, which allowed users to quickly search a location and understand its data layers and status at one glance

Hidden Insights
For each location, the layering of data on top of each other – such as soil data over vegetation indices – enabled intelligent visualization. Bringing different types of data on a single platform, revealed hidden insights by visually correlating one type of data with another. Such insights are hard to find if the data is at different places.

Centralized Control
A centralized command structure for the client’s entire database, accessed by different departments across USA allowed control over permissions to wrangle data coming from different places
